We helped residents of Brookdale Medical Center assisted living celebrate their holiday brunch by singing some favorite carols of the season! Santa Claus even stopped by!

SAAF is happy to volunteer with anyone who needs help, and that includes furry friends. We visited San Antonio Pets Alive! to provide some exercise, socialization and love to a number of dogs who had been rescued from a kill shelter. We took them for a walk and gave them some treats before spending time with cats who had also been given a second chance at life. One of the cats was even an amputee! All the animals are up for adoption.

SAAF always seeks to find ways to pay forward our blessings. We were invited by the Sachs Group to join them at the Church Under the Bridge, a community that serves the homeless people of San Antonio. In what was a humbling, moving experience, we helped prepare and serve a hot meal to several hundred men, women and children on a cold, winter night.

SAAF is always happy to help educate the community about limb difference and amputation. Several SAAF members met with physical therapy students at Concorde Career College in San Antonio to share our stories, answer questions, and provide (what was for some students) a first-time interaction with an amputee.

We are more than just members of the San Antonio Amputee Foundation; we are a family. On November 30th, we came together for a fun, family celebration of love and fellowship. The day included a delicious brunch, a fun "photo booth" and karaoke!

SAAF members were invited to visit Morgan's Wonderland, and we had a great time! Located right here in San Antonio, Morgan’s Wonderland is the world’s first theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment. The completely wheelchair-accessible park features more than 25 elements including rides, playgrounds and other colorful attractions.

Being an amputee in the water can be daunting. Our swim clinic will have volunteer certified swim coaches to work with non-swimmers through expert swimmers to make amputees feel safe and have fun in the water!

For the second year in a row, SAAF is participating in the Alamo Beer Challenge Series of four 5K races. Our members are walking, running, and rolling the course, as well as volunteering to help out and cheer our SAAF Team Unstoppable as they cross the finish line. Races in 2019 are August 10th, September 21st, October 12th and November 16th. See our calendar for details.

Most little boys might ask for toys or video games for their birthday present. Instead, 8-year-old Jax Burton wanted to help amputees after the movie Soul Surfer inspired him to help. He raised enough money to help SAAF provide a member with an above-knee prosthesis and give her the gift of mobility!

The Amputee Coalition National Conference is the place to be and be seen! It is the premier meeting event for the limb loss community. In 2019, the conference was right here in our hometown of San Antonio! Many of our members were able to attend thanks to a generous donation from Dr. & Mrs. Karia and their family.

In 2020, join us in Washington, D.C., for three days of fun, learning, hands-on clinics and workshops in a unique setting where people with limb loss are the norm, not the exception. This event is a perfect opportunity to meet new friends, socialize with other people with limb loss, and network.

Operation BBQ Relief provides meals to displaced residents and emergency personnel during times of natural and other disasters. However, on this day, the organization was giving thanks to all the hardworking medical staff at San Antonio Military Medical Center (previously known as Brooke Army Medical Center) by offering a free BBQ lunch. SAAF members were there to help serve the hundreds of personnel who stopped by.

The Big Give San Antonio is South Central Texas’ 24-hour online Day of Giving. Contributions to the San Antonio Amputee Foundation through The Big Give have funded home modifications, special sporting events for amputees and prosthetic limbs!

San Antonio Amputee Foundation traveled to Ski Apache Adaptive Sports in Ruidoso, NM for our third consecutive year.  Our trip in 2020 will likely take place in February. SAAF offers a scholarship that includes 2 days of private ski instruction, lift tickets, and all necessary ski equipment. Recipients will be responsible for their own transportation (we will arrange carpools) and lodging (group rates available).  Watch our website for more information as we get closer to the date.

Students at Beard Elementary School in San Antonio, TX, will discover what it looks and feels like to live with a disability or special need at Discovering Disabilities Day. They will have a chance to learn about living with auditory impairments, physical limitations and visual impairments. Members of SAAF will be there to discuss limb loss.

Come enjoy our free, fun outdoor workout! All levels welcome. Bring your family and friends. No cost. Second Saturday of every month from 8:15 to 9:45 directly prior to our General Support Group meeting. Warm Springs Rehab Hospital, 5101 Medical Drive, San Antonio, TX 78229.

San Antonio and surrounding area amputees supporting, educating, and inspiring one another. Our General Support Group meets the second Saturday each month at 10:00 a.m. at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital located at 5101 Medical Drive. We meet in the conference center training room on the first floor.

Our Upper Extremity (Arm, Hand, Fingers) Support Group meets on the first Saturday of February, April, June, August, October and December). 

There are other events throughout the year as announced.
